Heavy keychains can put too much strain on your ignition switch, which keeps your car engaged and running. If the switch is damaged, your car could shut off mid-drive. You can see how this could be a problem. It may not happen the first, second, or even 20th time you use your heavy keychain — but it can wear your ignition unit down over time. You should really only have your car key and remote entry device on your keychain — maybe a house key or two at the most. |
